Have you ever wondered why some disciplines take to technology more easily than others? Or why some prefer APA to Harvard for referencing? Joining us in June is Prof. Paul Trowler, who is a well-known expert on academic tribes and territories. Paul has explored the characteristics and cultures of academics in their disciplines and has published in areas related to social practice theory, higher education policy, and many more areas. Last year Paul has reached the amazing milestone of 20,000 citations and an H index of 50!
Paul is also a well respected HE teachers, who has supervised numerous PhD researchers from the Educational Research department at Lancaster University. Many of Paul’s students now have very successful careers in Higher Education and related fields. So if you want to learn more about the secrets behind a well respected HE teacher, this session is for you.

Paul Trowler is Professor of Higher Education, Lancaster University and Director of the PhD programme Higher Education Research, Evaluation and Enhancement. He has research interests which include: social practice theory as applied to teaching and learning; academic 'tribes' and their disciplinary territories; higher education policy-making and enactment; cultures in universities; enhancing student engagement. Paul has engaged in research, evaluation and development work with universities and higher education funding and policy bodies across the world. Paul has published numerous books, articles and reports in his fields of interest.

The session runs through, in turn, some things Paul has learnt in his career as a higher education teacher, researcher and author, with a brief personal illustration in each case of what led him to that learning.
